Restylane Q&A

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a dermal filler created from synthetic hyaluronic acid. When injected into your facial skin, Restylane works to enhance volume, which draws your skin more tightly and smooths away many signs of aging.

There are several formulations of Restylane from which to choose. Some are thicker than others, which gives your cosmetic specialist a range of options to address multiple treatment areas during the same visit.

Restylane®

This formulation is a great option for nasolabial folds and to plump your lips. It works well for moderate-to-severe lines and folds.

Restylane® Defyne

A thicker formulation, this filler works well for nasolabial folds and marionette lines

Restylane® Refyne

This filler can smooth nasolabial folds and marionette lines, while creating a natural, final look. This option allows you to perform natural expressions and skin movement.

Restylane® Lyft

This filler was created to add volume to the cheek or mid-face area. That can help create a more youthful, rounded facial appearance and can also lift sagging skin at the jawline. Lyft can also replace lost volume in the backs of your hands.

Restylane® Silk

This filler boosts volume in your lips and the skin around your mouth. In the hands of a skilled practitioner, Silk can give you a fuller, softer smile with well-defined lip borders.

Your cosmetic specialist will work with you to find the filler option that offers the best results for your specific needs.

What should I do to prepare for Restylane injections?

There is no need for any significant preparation for Restylane injections. However, if you take any medications or supplements, it’s important to mention them to your cosmetic specialist prior to your visit.

If you take aspirin, St. John’s Wort, fish oil, or vitamin E supplements, you should pause your regimen for two weeks prior to your appointment. Some medications and supplements increase your risk of bleeding, which can complicate your recovery process.

How long does it take to recover from Restylane injections?

There is no significant recovery time needed after your Restylane injections. Some minor swelling and bruising is normal, so you might want to take a day off to rest and give your body a chance to adjust.

Be sure to protect your skin from sun exposure in the days after your injections. If you experience tenderness in the treated area, over-the-counter pain medication is all that’s needed to find relief. You’ll be able to return to normal activities within a day of your injections.
